Anti-human trafficking project launched in Northeast
Agartala, Jun 25: A group of civil right protection bodies in North East has taken up a project of intervention on the issue of Cross Border Anti Trafficking Initiative.
According to report, under the Project 'Prevention of Child Trafficking in NE Cross Border Anti Trafficking Initiative', Impulse NGO Network has launched the programme to strengthen the capacity of civil society as well as law enforcing personnel and mechanisms.
Impulse team leader Hasina Kharbhih here today said the project was being implemented through the regional network in entire NE to address issues on human trafficking.
Describing the strategy, Ms Kharbhih stated that priority was being given to implement anti-trafficking laws, better coordination in rescue, rehabilitation work as well as better coordination among police, NGO, judiciary and prosecutors in protecting trafficked victims.
''We are also working on development of regional DATA Bank of rescued and missing children through joint effort from the networking alliance,'' Ms Kharbhih said.
They are also contemplating for setting up Anti-Trafficking Units (Vigilance Cell) in BSF to counter trafficking at border areas. Besides, a Human Rights Defender's system involving Civil Society and Community representative would be set up at local level.
