AIADMK complaints about arrest of booth agents

Madurai, June 25 (UNI) The Opposition AIADMK tonight lodged a complaint with the Election Commission submitting that the party's booth agents for tomorrow's bypoll were arrested by the police.

In a complaint to Tamil Nadu Chief Electoral Officer Naresh Gupta, AIADMK District Secretary V V Rajan Chellappa and the party candidate in the bypoll, Sellur K Raju, said while two booth agents were arrested by the police the others were threatened it they took up their duty.

Party functionaries reported that many booth agents were missing since this evening.

Meanwhile, a DMK functionary filed a petition before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court seeking the arrest of Sellur K Raju, in a case relating to the murder of an AIADMK worker in 2004 during the party's organisational elections.

In the petition, the DMK functionary Muthu Venkatesan submitted that one Pal Pandi was murdered due to inner-party rivalry and a CB-CID inquiry was pending against Sellur K Raju.

He prayed the Bench to issue an appropriate direction to the Election Commission to order the arrest of the AIADMK candidate.
