Chennai, June 24 (UNI) The Solvent Extractors' Association of India (SEA), premier association of vegetable oil industry and trade, will organise 'National Seminar on Rice Bran Oil' on June 30 here.

Centered around the theme 'Consumer Awareness - Need of the Hour', the seminar would educate the consumers and doctors about health advantages of using Rice Bran Oil (RBO) as edible oil.

Union Minister of state for Social Justice and Empowerment Subbulakshmi Jagadeesan, would be the chief guest and State Health Minister K K S S R Ramachandran would be the Guest of Honour for the event.

A seven member Sri Lankan delegation headed by Sri Lankan Irrigation Minister Anver Ismail would attend the seminar.

Following the first day, SEA would also host a Doctors Meet on July one to educate them about goodness of RBO.

On why Tamil Nadu was chosen as the host state, Executive Director SEA B V Mehta said ''the seminar is being held here as majority of the oil processors are from Tamil Nadu and it has immensely contributed to the growth of RBO industry.'' According to him, RBO was considered as healthy heart oil because of its unique component Oryzenol, which was present only in RBO and not in any other vegetable oil.

RBO would reduce bad cholesterol (LDL) without adversely affecting the good cholesterol (HDL), thus balancing the cholesterol level in the body and was widely used as premium edible oil globally.
