Ramsethu, farmers plight to dominate two day BJP meet

New Delhi, June 24 (UNI) The two day National Executive of the BJP commencing here tomorrow will take up the issues of Ram Sethu and farmers' suicides prominently.

The Executive will commence at 1230 hours after the BJP leaders complete the formality of being present at the filing of nomination papers by Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat for the July 19 Presidential elections, party Spokesman Prakash Javadekar said.

Asked if the Presidential elections might figure in the Executive, he said this election was dealt by NDA separately and all the constituents were backing Mr Shekhawat's candidature. In the conclave, former World Bank expert Kalyani Raman will give a special insight into the UPA government's attempt to breach the legendary bridge built across the sea from India with Lanka by Lord Rama to liberate Sita from the clutches of Ravana.

The BJP as well as various organisations have urged the Ministry of Ports to change the alignment of Sethu Samudram Project in Dhanushkoti to save the oldest bridge across the sea while the Government insists that it was a natural formation and is refusing to budge, he said.

Senior BJP leader Murli Manohar Joshi will be moving the resolution demanding the government to retain Ram Sethu and change the alignment respecting the religious sentiments of millions of Hindus across the country.

Another senior leader Venkaiah Naidu will be moving a resolution concerning farmers' suicides and their problems while Sushma Swaraj will be moving the political resolution on the second day.

Noted farm scientist turned Rajya Sabha MP, Dr M S Swaminathan will be addressing the members of the Executive. He was also head of the Farmers Commission before getting nominated to Upper House of Parliament.

Asked if the troubles for the governments in Rajasthan and Gujarat would not figure in the discussions, Mr Javadekar said the members were free to raise discussions on any issue permitted by the chair. In Rajasthan, there was perfect coordination between the party and the government and the violence was dealt in the best manner possible. ''The BJP stands by its principle of 'Justice for all appeasement for none,'' he assserted.

On the second day, the Executive will deal with political issues including the recentlty concluded elections in Uttarakhand, Punjab, Uttar Pradesh Delhi and Goa. The party had successes in the first two states and Delhi but it fared very badly in most important state of UP, while it failed to win a majority in Goa assembly.

The turmoil experienced in the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat, and the failures in bypolls in Madhya Pradesh will also figure in the discussions.

Many in the party would like to target BJP President Rajnath Singh for the failure in his home state where the party could win only 51 seats in the 403 member assembly. The party was criticised by its leaders and cadres when it left over 50 seats to its NDA allies Apna Dal of Sone Lal Patel and Janata Dal (United) and both parties could win only one seat, party sources said.
