Agartala, Jun 24 (UNI) Medical Council of India(MCI) regretted allowing academic activities in two medical colleges of Tripura for the session 2007-08.

Official sources here today said MCI team had visited both Agartala Government Medical College and BR Ambedkar Teaching Hospital and Tripura Medical College in a couple of weeks ago and they were not satisfied by the infrastructure.

''MCI report stated that both colleges in Tripura do not have the adequate infrastructure of learning as per the guideline of the council,'' sources said, adding that MCI has cancelled the approval of about 60 per cent medical colleges run by both government and private concerns across the country.

MCI's decisions had stalled the process of admission of about 200 students who were supposed to get entry in medical course for the year even after clearing the entrance, while the promotion of another 300 students in next higher semester in both the colleges has also been withheld, official stated.

The report of the team was discussed in the last council meeting of MCI and the recommendation of postponing the continuation of approval has been forwarded to union health ministry.
