Gujjar Mahapanchayat demands Raje's resignation
Pushkar, June 24 (UNI) The Gujjar Mahapanchayat today demanded that Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje resign from the post, owning moral responsibily for the violence and deaths of over 26 people in police firing during the Gujjar agitation.
The national Mahapanchayat, held here under the aegis of the Akhil Bharatiya Gujjar Sangarsh Samiti to formulate the future course of action for inclusion in the ST list, rallied behind Gujjar Arakshan Sangarsh Samiti leader Col Kirori Singh Bainsala.
Addressing a large gathering of about one lakh people, held at the Pushkar Mela ground, Col Bainsala cautioned against the peril of playing politics with the Gujjar agitation.
Dispelling any notion of him entering politics by announcing that he would never fight elections, the Gujjar leader also asserted that he would never allow the agitation to be hijacked by political parties.
Col Bainsala made it clear that the Gujjars would not rest till they got their demand fulfilled. ''It would be a fitting tribute to the 26 martyrs who laid down their lives for the cause of the community if Gujjars occupied the the seat of collectors in 26 districts after being given the benefits of reservation under the ST category.'' He said the the government had ''three months and three days at its disposal to settle the issue as per the agreement''.
