250th ann of Battle of Plassey commemorated

Nadia, Jun 23: A three-nation friendship meeting was held here to mark the 250th year of the Battle of Plassey.

Bangladesh representative Sheikh Raju Ahmed said that he hoped efforts would be made to bring the three countries - India, Pakistan and Bangladesh together into a long-lasting friendship.

Indo-Bangladesh People's Forum president Debabrata Biswas expressed concern that no memorial had so far been constructed to remember the heroes of the Battle fought by Sirajjuddawla against Lord Clive on June 23, 1757.

Pakistan representatives could not, however, be present on the occasion.
