Two child norm for government job in Chhattisgarh

Raipur, June 22 (UNI) The BJP government in Chhattisgarh has introduced two child norm as a pre-condition for a government job.

Those having more than two children are not entitled to apply for a job as such condition was putforth by the Development Commissioner, Panchayat and Rural Development department in an advertisement for filling up vacancies of Sub-engineer (civil).

Those having a third child born after January 26, 2001 and those who got married before attaining the legally permissible age are also not entitled to apply.

However, the department is silent about if a third child was born to the sub-engineer selected through this process.

State Professional Examination Board, which conducts the selection process for appointment of Sub-engineer (civil), claims that this particular clause was added on the guidelines laid down by the government in order to promote family planning.

''Number of children has nothing to do with civil engineering.

It's a rule and it has to be followed'', Board's Controller Dr V K Goyal told UNI.

Pointing out that similar clause was there in many previous examinations, including the one conducted for the selection of Police Sub-Inspectors, he said the General Administration department of undivided Madhya Pradesh had issued a circular in March 2000 in this regard.

However, GAD Secretary Jawahar Shrivastav told UNI that he was not aware about any such rule. ''Every department has its own recruitment rules. It is possible that the clause was introduced on the basis of the rules existing in the Panchayat and Rural Development department'', he added.

Development Commissioner R P Mandal said Panchayat Director P P Shroti was the person competent to throw light on the matter while the latter passed on the issue to Rural Engineering Service (RES) Chief Engineer S K Gupta.

''Professional Examination Board conducts the examination.The board will be able to explain it properly'', an RES official said.
