Ten tonnes of foreign coins deposited in banks in 2003
Tirupati, June 22 (UNI) At least ten tonnes of coins from various countries, donated by devotees from across the world at Hundi in Tirumala temple, were deposited in Vijaya bank and Andhra Bank in 2003 last.
Talking to UNI here today, a Tirumala Tirupati Devastanam(TTD) official said the coins mostly from Malaysia, Singapore and Arab countries were collected from the Hundi and deposited in the banks as on date market value An additional five to six tonnes of foreign coins donated by devotees from July, 2003 to March, 2006 are yet to be deposited in the banks. However, the Indian coins collected through Hundi were being deposited in the banks on daily basis, the official added.
