Senior police officer escaped bid on life, 3 killed in J
Srinagar, June 22 (UNI) A senior official of the Jammu and Kashmir police had a narrow escape when a hand grenade hurled by militants missed his vehicle in the downtown, while elsewhere in the state, two Pak militants were among three people killed and a war-like store were recovered overnight.
Official sources said militants hurled a hand grenade towards the vehicle of Superintendent of Police (SP) Bashir Ahmad Khan at Kathidarwaza, Rainawari, at 1810 hrs in the downtown city.
However, it missed the intended target and exploded on the roadside without causing any damage.
Mr Khan was on a routine patrolling in the area when militants attacked him. He escaped unhurt in the attack, the sources added.
Militants also hurled a hand grenade towards a patrol party of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) at Palhalan, Pattan, in Baramulla district today. However, it missed the target and exploded in a nullah without causing any damage.
A report from Baramulla said troops during a routine patrolling near the Line of Control (LoC) at Eagle post, Karnah, recovered bodies of two Pakistani militants. Two AK assault rifles and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the slain militants.
It is believed that the militants might have been buried alive under the snow avalanche in March this year.
An unidentified body was recovered from a nallah at Batamagi Nichiyan in Karnah.
