Naxal Varghese case: Court stays proceedings for a week

Kochi, June 22 (UNI) The Kerala High Court today stayed the proceedings against former Kerala Director General of Police Vijayan in connection with the murder of Naxalite leader Varghese.

Justice V Ramkumar, before whom the case came up for hearing, stayed the proceedings for one week.

The former D G P is the third accused in the case.

P Ramachandran Nair, a former constable, had admitted in the affidavit that he shot dead Varghese in the Thirunelli forest in Wayanad at the instance of Mr Vijayan and former Inspector General of Police K Lakshmana. The incident took place in 1970.

The police officers were charge-sheeted by the CBI before the Magistrate Court.
