Illegal medical college racket busted; five trustees arrested
Pune, Jun 22 (UNI) Pune Rural Police today busted a bogus medical college racket on the similar lines of the movie 'Munna Bhai MBBS' and arrested five trustees of the college today at Telegaon Dhabade about 50 km from here.
Giving details of the arrest, Superintendent of Police Viswas Nagrepatil told reporters here that Rajendrasingh Yadhav, the kingpin floated the illegal institution under the name of 'Siddharth Institute of Medical College', having enrolled 150 students last year.
''It is indeed shocking and surprising that without valid recognition from the State government, Yadhav has not only hoodwicked the authorities but also put careers of students at stake,'' Mr Nagrepatil said.
The Yadavs belong to Manipur district of Uttar Pradesh but are settled in Pune since long.
The college has a big complex in Talegaon without any adequate facilities of the teaching staff or laboratories, he said.
Mr Nagrepatil said those students who had secured 50 per cent marks in their Class 12 exams were eligible to take admission in the instutute after paying Rs 3.5 lakhs.
Acting on a complaint filed by a student, the SP carried out a raid at the college late last night and arrested five persons including director Rajendrasingh Yadhav and his wife Rekha Yadhav, Piyush Krannti, Sukestu Vikas Nandy, Sushil Kumar Varma and Visvesh Sharma.
One of the drivers employed by the Yadavs has ironically been made the director of the illegal institution, he added.
The arrested will be produced before the court tomorrow for remand.
