Haryana Agro promotes beekeeping
Chandigarh, June 22 (UNI) In order to encourage farmers and unemployed youth to adopt the profession of beekeeping to become self reliant, the Haryana Agro Industries Corporation (HAIC) has fixed a target to supply 5000 bee colonies and 6000 bee hives to beekeepers on subsidy during the current financial year.
A Corporation spokesman said that training would also be imparted to 400 unemployed youth, farmers, bee keepers, persons belonging to scheduled castes and scheduled tribes and women aspirants free of cost during the year to acquaint them in the profession of bee keeping.
The Corporation would also provide free boarding and lodging facility to the participants during training at its R and D Centre, Murthal in Sonepat district.
The trained beekeepers would be supplied with bee colonies and bee hives of good quality on 50 per cent subsidy by the Corporation through its registered breeders. The Corporation would also bear the migration cost of bee colonies, he added.
He said the Central government had recognised Haryana Agro Industries Corporation as the state designated agency for the development of bee keeping for improving the crop productivity.
