Gold contracts register turnover of Rs 606 cr, copper at Rs 551

Mumbai, Jun 22 (UNI) The turnover on Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX) today was Rs 2,626.35 crore, down 36 per cent from the previous day.

Total number of trades were 48,346.

MCX Comdex -- the composite index of metals, energy and agri indices -- was down 0.19 per cent at 2134.99 points, MCX Metal Index upped by 0.17 per cent to close at 2509.46 points, MCX Energy Index was down 0.53 per cent at 2198.67 points and MCX Agri Index ended down 0.39 per cent at 1685.68 points, a release here said.

Bullion turnover totalled Rs 1,011.06 crore, of which gold contracts accounted for Rs 606.50 crore and silver contracts for Rs 404.56 crore. Gold contract volumes were 6,946 kgs and open interest (OI) of 16,162 kgs while silver volumes were 225,625 kgs and OI 606,285kgs.

Gold contracts, including gold mini, gained between Rs three and Rs 33 per ten gm, with the August gold contract being up by 0.24 per cent at Rs 8742 per 10 gms.

Silver contracts, including silver mini, gained between Rs 30 and Rs 85 per kg. The July contract was up 0.23 per cent at Rs 17916 per kg.

In the base metals segment, copper contracts turnover was Rs 551.72 crore. Volumes were 18,010,000 kg and OI 13,970,000 kg.

Copper contracts advanced by between Re 0.25 and Re0.95 per kg, with the June contract being up by 0.10 per cent at Rs 306.65 per kg.

Turnover of all zinc contracts was Rs 451.06 crore with volume of 31,155 tonnes and OI of 39,390 tonnes. Zinc contracts showed a mixed tendency with Re 0.30 and Re 0.55 per kg. Zinc June contract was down 0.21 per cent at Rs 145.05 per kg.

Turnover of all nickel contracts was Rs 156.75 crore with volume of 1,013,000 kg and OI of 1,269,000 kgs. Nickel for June delivery was down 0.03 per cent at Rs 1549.20 per kg.

Turnover of all aluminium contracts was Rs 10.84 crore with volume of 992 tonnes and OI of 6,254 tonnes. Aluminium June contract was down 0.27 per cent at Rs 109.20 per kg.

In the energy segment, crude oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 204.12 crore. Volume was 730,500 barrels and OI 1,468,100 barrels.

Crude oil July contract was down 0.57 per cent at Rs 2787 per barrel.

Natural gas turnover across all contracts was Rs 4.28 crore with volume of 138,5000 mmBTU and OI of 1,373,000 mm BTU. Natural gas for July delivery was down 0.26 per cent at Rs 304.40 per mmBTU.

Among agri commodities, guarseed contracts totalled Rs 2.35 crore turnover with volume of 1,390 tonnes and OI of 5,890 tonnes.

Potato (Agra and Tarkeshwar) witnessed a turnover of Rs 14.30 crore with volume of 214,800 tonnes and OI of 85,110 tonnes.

Mentha oil contracts witnessed a turnover of Rs 20.68 crore with volume of 403 tonnes and OI of 1,455 tonnes.

Chana contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 23 crore, volume of 1,0000 tonnes and OI of 4,040 tonnes.

Refined soya oil contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 155.62 crore with volume of 31,730 tonnes and OI of 44,380 tonnes.

Robusta coffee turnover was Rs 0.13 crore with volume of 17 tonnes and OI of 653 tonnes.

Cardamom contracts clocked a turnover of Rs 1.20 crore, volume of 25 tonnes and OI of 174 tonnes.

Jeera turnover was Rs 0.42 crore, volume 39 tonnes and OI 276 tonnes.

Soyabean turnover was Rs 1.06 crore, volume 6,700 tonnes and OI 7,300 tonnes.
