Nagaland: High Court hears PIL on 2001 census

Kohima, Jun 22: Gauhati High Court has heard the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) over the 'erroneous 2001 Census' in Nagaland.

During the first day of the hearing yesterday, both the advocates, representing the main petitioner, CPO and the second petitioner, the Joint Action Committee (JAC), made their submission before the five-member Full Constitutional Bench headed by Chief Justice Chelameswar.

The CPO was represented by Advocate N Dutta, while the JAC was represented by Advocate T K Mishra.

The advocate general of Asom, representing the other petitioner, Ao Senden (who had filed a miscellaneous PIL), the advocate general of Nagaland and the advocate, representing the Delimitation Commission and the Centre, were due to make their respective submission before the bench the next day.

Meanwhile, sources said such a full constitutional bench was instituted in Gauhati High Court after 17 years.
