Federation to observe July 12 as 'Day of mourning'

Puducherry, June 22 (UNI) The Federation of Village Panchayat Presidents Associations will observe July 12, the first anniversary day of their swearing-in as elected representatives of the local bodies as the ''Day of Mourning.'' A decision to observe the Day of Mourning was taken at the Federation meeting here today to protest against the administration's failure to devolve powers to the elected local body representatives.

The meeting resolved to observe a fast either in New Delhi or at Sriperambudur and move the court against the territorial administration on the issue.

PMK parliamentary party leader Prof M Ramadass, PMC legislator K Lakshminarayanan, and Puducherry Panchayat Movement president Vasudevaraju participated in the meeting as special invitees.
