Villagers object to construction of sewage tank near temple

Puducherry, June 21 (UNI) Tension prevailed at Lawspet area today as villagers objected to the construction of a sewage tank in a portion of a pond.

According to the villagers, the PWD was planning to construct a tank in a portion of a recently desilted pond near the Lawspet police station to collect the sewage water from the area and pump it out.

They said the construction of the tank near to a temple would cause inconvenient to the devotees visiting the temple.

When the PWD officials came to start the construction work, the villagers led by Councillor Thangavel protested against it leading to tension in the area.

Following this, Chief Engineer Anandane rushed to the spot, held talks with the people, and assured them that the issue could be sorted out after a meeting on Sunday next.
