Senior IT official dies in Kashmir, body flown to Delhi

Srinagar, Jun 21 (UNI) A joint director in the Ministry of Information and Technology died after getting drowned in the river Jhelum at Uri, about 100 km from here along with a senior scientist.

A police spokesman said, joint director Arun Dingra, heading a team of experts from Ministry of Information and Technology and senior scientist Vinay Gupta were taking photographs on the bank of the Jhelum near Gingal Bridge when they slipped into the river.

He said rescue operations were immediately launched and Mr Gupta was rescued.

A senior police official told UNI, over the phone from Uri, that the body of Mr Dingra was recovered from the river at 0800 hours this morning at Gingal.

The body of Mr Dingra was flown to Delhi after performing the postmortem, he said.

The central team had come here to inspect the Uri project.
