Prohibitory orders in Ajmer before Gujjar meet

Ajmer, June 21: Prohibitory orders have been imposed in the entire Ajmer district in view of the Gujjar Mahapanchayat slated for June 24 in the holy city of Pushkar.

District Collector Navin Mahajan imposed Section 144 CrPC from last night as a precautionary measure to avoid disruption of law and order as more than a lakh Gujjars are expected to attend the Mahapanchayat. Carrying of weapons including baton and other sharp edged weapons along with raising of provocative slogans and speech have been banned till June 24.

At least 29 acting magistrates have been appointed and nine check posts have been set up on the national highway leading to Pushkar.

Hundreds of special task force personnel from Bikaner and Jodhpur have already arrived in Pushkar to strengthen the security.

Riot-control vehicle Vajra has been stationed in the city. Thousands of police and administrative officials have been deployed in Pushkar and surrounding areas.

All liquor shops on the highway and surrounding areas would also be closed on Sunday June 24.

Meanwhile, the Sanyukt Gurjar Aarakshan Morcha co-ordinator and Congress MLA Govind Singh Gurjar has appealed to all fellowmen not to carry weapons or disrupt peace in any way, while arriving for mahapanchayat.
