New Delhi, Jun 21 (UNI) The government plans to spread the message of new and renewable energy technologies and systems throughout the country this year to commemorate late Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi's birthday.

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy would celebrate August 20 as 'Rajiv Gandhi Akshay Urja Diwas', with the main function being organised at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, an official statement said here today.

Marathon (21 km) for men and women, 'Run For Fun' for senior citizens and others, three-day Renewable Energy Exhibition and administering renewable energy pledge to 30,000 school children and other participants would be the highlights of the function.

The ministry celebrates August 20 every year as 'Akshay Urja Diwas' (renewable energy day).
