Haryana govt promotes pisciculture

Kaithal, June 21 (UNI) To provide marketing facilities to fish farmers in Haryana, the state government will set up new fish mandies on foreign pattern at Bahadurgarh and Gurgaon.

This was stated by the Haryana fisheries Deputy Director Dharam Singh Bharti while talking to media persons here today.

He said modern mandis had already been set up at Yamunanagar, Panipat and Faridabad.

A plan to modernise fish seed farms was also being implemented so that fish farmers could increase per acre production, he added.

The farmers were being given training for fish farming through Poly culture and Mono culture methods, which were based on new techniques.

Under poly culture, besides Jhinga farming, the stress was on increasing production of Katla and Rahu variety fish whereas under Monoculture only Jhinga fish production was encouraged.

Elaborating on the steps taken to promote pisciculture in the state, Mr Bharti said that schemes were introduced under which fifty per cent subsidy was being provided on feed and fertilisers to farmers.

At least, two units would be set up in each district under these schemes. Besides, under the national fish rearing scheme the ponds having an area of 5 hectares will be selected and the farmers will be given subsidies for feed and renovation of such ponds.

Those farmers who had already availed benefit of subsidy under any other scheme woul also be entitled for benefits under this scheme.

He said in order to create awakening among the youngsters about pisciculture, aquariums were being set up in five schools of each district.
