Governor appeals media to improve coverage of non-metro areas
Chumukedima, Jun 21 (UNI) Nagaland Governor K Sankaranarayanan today appealed to the national media not to be "metro-centric" and give coverage of the other regions of the country for greater interest of national integrity.
Inaugurating a two-day seminar cum workshop on "Media and Development," organized by Directorate of Field Publicity under the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, the Governor pointed out that some of the national dailies and news channels were busy only with the metro news and neglect major parts of the country.
He also underlined the need of the government controlled media to give afresh look for having better infrastructrue so that coverage could be expanded beyond traditonal areas.
He said, for example, there was lack of staff in Doordarshan Kendra, Kohima, for a long time and such gaps must be filled. He said the North Eastern Region needs lots of help from the Centre, especially on the media coverage and give a better exposure by the electronic as well as print media.
He said the news agencies were doing their best for coverage and exposure of Northeast.
