CPI(M) urges admn to set up Puducherry board of education

Puducherry, June 21 (UNI) The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today urged the administration to take up immediate steps to set up the Puducherry board of education.

In a statement here today, CPM Secretary V Perumal said the administration should refrain from appointing retired personnels in the board and it should be set up with educationists.

Pointing out the enhancement of the pass percentage in the SSLC examination here by 5.76 per cent this year, Mr Perumal said the quality of education should be improved in government schools so that the children of higher officials, politicians and teachers would come forward to study in government schools.

He demanded that the government should order an inquiry into the pass percentage in the Savarirajalu school in the town which was causing concern.

Mr Perumal, who demanded that the government should evolve an educatioin policy after hearing the views of the public, also wanted to fill up all the vaccant teachers post here.
