Pune, June 21 (UNI) The Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board today announced that it has prescribed a new story on the dacoit Angulimal embracing Buddhism in a supplementary to standard IX textbook 'Kumarbharti' for this year, which will be supplied directly to schools by the board officials.

The move comes following the Board's decision to delete a chapter on 'Siddhartha Buddha Zhala' (Siddhartha becomes the Buddha) in standard IX textbook 'Kumarbharti' for this year due to some grammatical errors.

In a release issued here today, the Board stated that following the report of the inquiry committee, all the grammatical mistakes had been corrected. However, for this academic session, the Board has decided to replace the chapter on the Buddha with the story based on Angulimal - the dacoit embracing Buddhism 'Angulimal Navacha darodekhorachi Dhammadiksha'.

The note also stated that all schools would be getting a supplementary copy carrying corrections in respect of the chapter 'Siddhartha becomes the Buddha'.

Earlier, activists belonging to Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) attacked Deputy Director Bal Bharti and former chairman of Maharashtra State Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board Vasant Kalpande, alleging his involvement in a scam concerning 13 lakh books worth Rs 3.5 crore. They alleged that the mistakes were deliberate as copies of the books had to be reprinted.
