AP: Boy with complicated kidney failure saved
Hyderabad, June 21: Relentless effort by the team of doctors of a corporate hospital here saved the life of a 14-year-old boy who had a kidney failure after he was infected with chicken pox.
Lotus Chidren's Hospital Chief Executive Officer V S V Prasad told newspersons here last night that the boy, a native of Nanded in Maharashtra, was brought to the hospital from Marathwada Hospital after he had convulsions.
He was brought here via road in a special ambulance on life support system.
Dr Prasad said the medical tests conducted on the boy revealed that he had severe brain swelling and a kidney failure.
After being admitted to Pediatric Intensive Care Unit for over two weeks, the boy showed remarkable improvement with kidney function returning to normal.
Dr Prasad said the treatment for kidney failure, which required dialysis, was a complicated one, as the patient had chicken pox.
Several similar cases across the world showed that children and adults with similar complications had succumbed.
