BJP demands judicial probe into land allotments
Nagpur, June 21 (UNI) The BJP today demanded a judicial probe by a High Court judge into the alleged irregularities in allotment of land to institutions of politicians in Maharashtra.
Speaking to newsmen here, the party's Maharashtra unit General Secretary Vinod Tawade said a resolution, demanding a judicial probe, was adopted at a meeting of the office bearers of the party's state unit held here this afternoon. The office bearers met to decide the agenda for the meeting of the state unit committee, beginning here tomorrow.
''Technically, there may be nothing wrong in the allotment of land to trusts of politicians, but the affair reeks of a scandal as upto seven plots have been given to one trust, and that too at throwaway prices. This is tantamount to corruption, and hence we want a judicial probe,'' Mr Tawade said.
Among the beneficiaries were institutions with which Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh, and his colleagues in the cabinet Patangrao Kadam and Anees Ahmed were connected, he alleged.
Mr Tawade said a resolution on the problems of farmers in Maharashtra, especially those cultivating cotton, orange, paddy and sugarcane, would be taken up for discussion during the executive committee meeting here.
The political resolution would focus on the law and order situation in the state, power shortage and the issue of special economic zones (SEZs), he said. Another resolution would be moved to oppose the 'anti-Hindu' policies of the incumbent Democratic Front (DF) government, he said.
Mr Tawade said the BJP would launch an agitation against the forcible acquisition of land, belonging to farmers, for SEZs by the state government.
