Raj: Army help to clear water-logging in Ganganagar

Sriganganagar, June 21: The Army has been called to help the district administration in draining out the rainwater collected due to heavy showers in the past four days in Ganganagar district.

The district administration has also asked for a budget of Rs 25 lakh to carry out the relief work in the low-lying areas, which have been submerged.

Four special teams have been constituted to monitor the draining out of water from the fields and other low-lying areas and also identify alternate drainage paths as rountine paths are currently under water.

Major Pradeep Goswami said one column of Army comprising more than 40 personnel was helping the district administration in the work. At least nine pump sets have been installed in city's Gurunanak Basti and other areas to pump out water.

District Collector Bhawani Singh Detha said they had asked the state government to make Rs 25 lakh available to carry out relief work. Out of Rs 25 lakh, at least Rs 15 lakh would be given to people who have suffered losses and Rs 10 lakh for water drainage work.
