World's second longest Marina beach to get facelift
Chennai, June 20 (UNI) The Chennai Corporation has come out with a blueprint to give a facelift to the world's second longest beach here.
According to the plans, new pathways, service lanes, landscaped lawns and seating space for visitors at the Marina Beach would be created, official sources said.
As part of the beach beautification scheme, the three km stretch from Napier Bridge to Lighthouse would be developed at a cost of Rs 14 crore, they said.
As per the Corporation's blueprint for this stretch, modification and renovation of the existing parking space, lawns, footpaths and service lanes between Kamarajar Salai and the beach would be carried out. However, the plan does not propose any development on the beach sands.
Tenders have already been floated for the project.
The sources said the gradient of the landscaping would allow people travelling on Kamarajar Salai to see the shoreline.
Cleaning and maintenance would be outsourced through a separate tender, the sources added.
