Women's Car Rally proving to be a hit, participants increasing

Chennai, June 20 (UNI) As part of its social objective of empowerment of eves, the Duchess Club, launched by five women here in 2002, has been conducting the only All Women Car Rally here as one of its programmes to bring out the best in every woman.

This year's rally being conducted with technical support from Madras Motor Sports Club on July 1, will have three categories experts comprising competitors who had emerged the winner in any previous rally, regulars comprising atleast one competitor who had participated in a previous edition and novice comprising competitors participating for the first time, Nina Reddy, one of the five founding-members of the Club said.

Members of the Duchess Club will compete in a seperate category.

The teams which had emerged the winner in the last year edition will graduate to the experts category.

Ms Nina Reddy said with the rally proving to be quite popular as the steadily increasing participation showed, the Club was expecting atleast 100 entries this year.

The rally, open for cars of all engine capacities and categories, including diesel cars and jeeps, would be conducted in and around Chennai and its outskirts covering a distance of 80 kms.

However, the route of the rally, run on time, speed&distance format, will not be revealed beforehand. Indian Oil Corporation (IOL) are the main sponsors of the event with MARG Construction as the co sponsor, offering a total prize money of Rs 2 lakh.
