Two arrested in post-Godhra communal violence

Rajkot, June 20 (UNI) The city police have arrested two men for their alleged role in the killing of three people on February 28, 2002, in the aftermath of the Godhra carnage.

The action has come following the Supreme Court's directive to re-open the 'undetected' communal violence case.

Gopal Rathod (22) and Kanji Bhimji Rathod (45) were arrested yesterday for their alleged involvement in the triple murder case, police said today.

The duo were part of the irate mob who had allegedly killed Salim Chauhan (35), his brother Yunus (22) and Shahmiya Ibrahimmiya (55) behind the Marketing yard on the outskirts of the city on February 28, 2002. Later, the mob had set ablaze their bodies.

The duo will be produced before the court later in the day, police added.
