SC defers hearing on marks in Environmental Education plea
New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) The Supreme Court today declined to give an early date of hearing to the petitioner seeking direction to the authorities to consider the marks in Environmental Education while calculating the percentage of a candidate for admission to university.
Nandita Rao, counsel for the petitioner, contended before the vacation bench conprising Justices Arijit Basayat and P P Naolekar that 42,000 students having Indian Certificate for School Examination(ICSE) who have taken Environmental Education as one of the subjects are going to be adversely affected.
According to the petitioner, universities were not including the marks of enviromental education in the best four subjects for calculating their percentage for admission and hence their careers are in jeopardy because they are being denied admission arbitrarily and illegally. The court, however, said there was no urgency in the matter and it can be listed after reopening of the court after summer vacations.
