Pvt college regulatory mechanism should be in place: Edu Minister

Kolkata, Jun 20 (UNI) The West Bengal government today emphasised the need for a regulatory mechanism for private colleges in order to monitor these educational institutes.

Speaking to mediapersons today at a programme organised by India Chamber of Commerce, state Education Minister Sudarshan Roy Chowdhury said the state government wants a regulatory mechanism to control and monitor the private colleges in the state. ''Instead of the Centre assisting and coordinating in various projects, we want them to follow the PPP model,'' he said.

With the state government completing 30 years of governance in Bengal today, education system has transformed in a major way, he emphasised. ''We need to expand and that can be done through public -private partnership model,'' he said.

He also mentioned that two universities would be coming up in Bengal-one in North bengal and the other in the south.
