Punjab to observe June 26 as anti narcotic drugs day

Chandigarh, June 20 (UNI) The Punjab government would observe June 26 as International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, so as to raise public awareness against the menace of drugs in the state.

Disclosing this here today, an official spokesman said that the government would use this occasion to acquaint the public with the steps taken by the government against drugs, illicit trafficking in narcotics drugs and psychotropic substances.

He added that the government would organise programmes on this day to educate the public about the ill-effects of drugs. Exhibitions and seminars along with public meetings would be organised in areas vulnerable to drug abuse and HIV.

He appealed to voluntary organisations, NGOs and educational institutions to come forward and team up with the government agencies for checking drug abuse and undertaking de-addiction activities.
