Asansol, June 20 (UNI) Prohibitory orders under Section 144 CrPC which were clamped at Purusottam village of IISCO steel plant on Saturday, were partially withdrawn today following improvement in law and order situation there, local SDO Alakesh Prasad Roy said.

He said the prohibitory orders were now restricted to only IISCO's Slag Bank area where filling of land for modernisation of the plant was going on.

Mr Roy said the entire Purusottam village in Asansol sub-division was brought under prohibitory orders on June 16 after local people turned violent on demand of compensation of land they offered for expansion and modernisation of IISCO Steel plant. Police had to resort to lathicharge to disperse the mob.

Meanwhile, Trinamool Congress leader Partho Chatterjee during the day called on IISCO's managing director Nilotpol Roy and demanded adequate price for land compensation with present market rate and job for each member of family whose land was acquired.

Many local people had given land for steel plant's expansion programme in 1999 but are now demanding compensation at present market rates.
