Producers' Association calls MACTA for unconditional talks

Kochi, June 20 (UNI) The Kerala Film Producers' Association today urged the striking Malayalam Cine Technicians' Association (MACTA) Federation to come forward for unconditional talks to break the deadlock in the Kerala film industry.

Speaking to reporters after an emergency meeting of the Producers' Association here, its President Milan Jaleel said the Association had decided to recoup losses incurred due to the ongoing strike from the agitating MACTA.

The MACTA yesterday started an indefinite strike to press their eight-point charter of demands with the Producers' Association, which resulted in a total shutdown of film production.

''The Association had the backing of 14 producers and they had given in writing their unflinching support,'' he added.

Mr Jaleel said that if MACTA or any other organisation produced a film without their approval, the film would not be screened in Kerala cinemas.

''If any of the technicians are willing to cooperate with the producers, the Association will provide all facilities to commence film production,'' he said.

MACTA's demands include hike in daily allowances for film unit members and drivers, higher stake for scriptwriters in film returns and withdrawal of ban on Director Sibi Malayil.
