Over 1100 land grabbers arrested in Karnataka: ADGP

Bangalore, Jun 20 (UNI) In a major crack down against the land grabbers in Bangalore Urban district police have arrested 1133 people and recovered back over 1716.35 acres of government land from them, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order) Shankar Bidri said here today.

Speaking to UNI, he said that the District Revenue authorities had lodged as many as 408 complaints involving encroachment of government land.

He said that the police who had registered 408 cases had completed investigation. It had also filed charge sheets in 304 cases and arrested the encroachers.

Encroaching government land had been made a cognisable offense after state government brought amendment to the Karnataka Land Revenue act recently.

Remaining 104 cases the process of taking action was at different stages. Police have also identified 474 more accused in the remaining cases and arrests would be made as early as possible, he said.

Mr Bidari said that large tract of over 482 acres of Government encroached land was reported in Nelamangala and was recovered after filing cases against 510 accused in which over 343 were arrested under Karnataka Land Revenue act.

In Hoskote 287 acres was acquired and 129 persons arrested. As many as 139 persons were arrested in Chikkajala where 285 acres of government land was recovered back. In Bidadi over 63 acres of state land was seized after arresting 21 people while 142 acres of land was found encroached in Rajanakunte village in Doddaballapur revenue division where over 70 persons were booked, he said.

The ADGP said he had ordered for a crack down on the land grabbers.
