Online auction for arrack shops in Pondy

Puducherry, June 20 (UNI) Online auction for arrack shops in Puducherry region began here today.

The auction system had been in practice since 2000 for arrack and toddy shops in the union territory.

Auction for all 98 arrack shops were held in 2006-07.Since there was a provision to renew the licence with a five per cent enhancment over the previous year's auction amount, the licences of 68 shops were renewed and auction for the other 30 shops held today.

Auction for shops at Ariyankauppam Commune and Bahour Commune were taken up this morning.

However,only one shop was auctioned as there were no bidders for the others.

The auctioning would continue tomorrow and the auction of toddy shops held the day after.
