No question of supporting Kalam as consensus candidate: Sharad

Saharsa, June 20 (UNI) JD(U) president Sharad Yadav today laid all speculation at rest of supporting a proposal of United National Progressive Alliance (UNPA) favouring incumbent President A P J Abdul Kalam as consensus candidate for the presidential election slated for next month.

''The initiatives from some political corners to evolve the name of Mr Kalam as consensus candidate for presidential election is like a marriage party without a groom,'' he maintained.

Mr Yadav told UNI here that the National Democratic Alliance (NDA)would support Vice-President Bhairon Singh Shekhawat in the presidential election and there was no question of giving a second thought in this regard.

Earlier, UNPA had named Dr Kalam as its candidate for the post of President with an appeal to political parties to favour him as consensus candidate, while Mr Shekhawat made a statement virtually supporting it.
