Mizo party invites PM to look east

Aizawl, June 20 (UNI) Welcoming the Centre's Look East policy, the Brig T Sailo-led Mizoram People's Conference has invited Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to visit Mizoram towards realisation of the policy.

''The region, which for many centuries has remained alienated from the rest of the country, will inevitably be exposed from the economic, social and cultural isolation through this policy, thus ushering in a new vista of development,'' said the MPC in its memorandum to the Prime Minister inviting him to visit Mizoram.

North East region, despite of its vast untapped natural resources, was still very backward in many respects and the Prime Minister himself was known to be aware of it, the party said, adding, while the GDP at the national level was well above nine, that of the NE was still staggering below five.

''And yet we hold our heads high in the world community and feel proud to be the citizens of India under your dynamic leadership,'' said the party.
