ING Vysya raises Rs 65 lakh for 4300 children's primary education

New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) ING Vysya today said its India-based businesses' employees had presented a contribution of Rs 65 lakh to the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) for providing primary education to underprivileged childern through its local charity foundation.

The money collected by 'ING Vysya Foundation' will enable more than 4,300 child labourers in the Dharmapuri and Krishnagiri districts of Tamil Nadu to benefit from primary eduacation, the Bank said in a statement.

''The ING Chances for Children programme is an employee driven initiative which aims to contribute to the goal of achieving primary education for under-privileged children. This effort is representative of many projects that ING's employees worldwide are supporting, to contribute to the worhty cause of education for everyone,'' ING Vysya Bank CEO and MD Kshitij Jain said in the statement.

ING Vysya Bank CEO and MD Vaughn Richtor and Mr Jain presented the cheque to Mr Thomas George of UNICEF India.

''This year's focus is to keep these children in school and provide them with primary education in UNICEF-supported schools,'' Mr Richtor added.

These schools provide children with individual attention and quality education for them to a regular school.

The company last week launched its new scheme 'Run Ricky Run' in which it announced that it would send one kid to primary education with every ODI run that flows from the bat of prolific Aussie skipper Ricky Ponting in one year from September 2007.

The Bank at present has 450 branches and 165 ATMs in India, of which 20 branches and 25 ATMs are located in Delhi and NCR.
