Health Ministers of 9 states to discuss Chikungunya tomorrow
New Delhi, Jun 20 (UNI) Health Minister Anbumoni Ramadoss has called a meeting of the health ministers of nine states here tomorrow to discuss measures to deal with spread of Chikungunya which has affected hundreds of people across the country, especially Kerala.
The Centre would take stock of the chikungunya situation in these states and offer monetary and technical support to them in dealing with the viral disease which was first dectected in the country last year after a gap of 32 years.
The ministers from states affected by Chikungunya which include Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Puducherry, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa and Delhi are likely to participate in the meeting to be held in Vigyan Bhavan.
The mosquito borne disease has till now affected hundreds of people with many deaths being attributed to the mosquito borne disease in the country. However, the government has denied any deaths occuring due to Chikungunya and said that deaths were due to some other related diseases.
