GOM meets to discuss fate of Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project
New Delhi, Jun 20 (UNI) The Group Of Ministers on Power today met to discuss the fate of the controversial 4,000 MW Sasan Ultra Mega Power Project to be set up in Madhya Pradesh.
The about one-and-half hour meeting, chaired by Sushilkumar Shinde and attended by Finance Minister P Chidambaram, Law Minister H R Bhardwaj and Planning Commission Deputy Chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, remained inconclusive and will be held again tomorrow to discuss the issue.
The GOM had been set up to ensure that all Ultra Mega Power Projects in the country were set up and commissioned as early as possible to meet the fast increasing demand for electricity, Mr Shinde said after the meeting.
It had taken up Sasan after some 'legal hurdles' had cropped up, he said, adding that sorting out these problems would ensure that there no legal, technical and financial wrangles would come in the way of such projects in the future.
