Bangalore, June 20: HealthCare Global Enterprises Limited (HCG) the leader in comprehensive high quality cancer care centers today broke the ground to set up its Cyberknife project.

Talking to newsmen here, HCG Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Dr Ajai Kumar said that this would be the India's first whole body robotic stereo tactic radio surgery equipment. The project was being set up in collaboration with Singapore based Advanced Medical Systems Private Limited (AMS).

He said that the Rs 30 Crore project brings the state of the art technology, which has proved itself in other parts of the world.

Dr Ajai Kumar said that the CyberKnife System represents the next generation of radio surgery systems, combining continuous image-guidance technology with a compact linear accelerator that has flexibility to move in three dimensions according to the treatment plan. This combination, which was referred to as intelligent robotics, extends the benefits of radio surgery to the treatment of tumors anywhere in the body. The CyberKnife System autonomously tracks, detects and corrects for tumor and patient movement in real-time during the procedure, enabling delivery of precise, high dose radiation typically with sub millimeter accuracy, he added.

He said that HCG is going in for expanding its activities by establishing Oncology centers through out the country and by pioneering adoption of world class technologies in cancer care.

"The mission is to make high quality cancer treatment accessible and affordable to all segments of the society across the nation and lead the adoption of global innovations in the diagnosis, treatment and management of cancer", he added.

The project would take six to eight months for completion.

AMS President and CEO Romesh Kaul said his company specialises in providing integrated diagnostic and minimally invasive therapy solutions that support quality healthcare in developing markets.

"Through CyberKnife, HCG would be able to provide the most accurate tumour targeted radiation therapy for any tumour size anywhere in the body, with only three to five treatment sessions", he added.
