CPM plea to UPA to make women's rally a success
Chennai, June 20 (UNI) The Tamil Nadu State Committee of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) today called upon United Progressive alliance (UPA) constituents to work for the success of the proposed all-party women's rally in support of Presidential candidate Pratibha Patil on July one.
The rally is being jointly organised by the UPA together with the Left Parties.
In a statement here, Party State Secretary N Varadharajan said the CPI (M) had all along supported the demand for 33 per cent reservation for women.
In fact, the party had fielded Ms Lakshmi Seghal as the candidate in the last Presidential poll.
Ms Patil had all the qualification for contesting the Presidential elections, he said and wanted the UPA constituents to mobilise more and more women for the rally to make it a grand success.
