New Delhi, June 20 (UNI) Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit today handed over loan cheques amounting to Rs 56 lakh to 112 beneficiaries from the weaker section of society to enable them to start an initiative for economic independence.

She also allotted 197 worksheds to aspirants belonging to Scheduled Caste by a draw of lot. The 112 beneficiaries comprised of SC, ST, OBC, Minority communities and the handicapped.

The Chief Minister said the schemes were simplified from time-to-time keeping in view the problems being faced by beneficiaries.

''Under the Composite Loan Scheme, the upper loan limit was Rs 50,000 earlier, which was so meager that the prospective beneficiaries felt the same as negligible to start any venture,'' she said. The limit was recently enhanced to Rs one lakh.

She said practice of obtaining No-Objection Certificate from the Office of the Guarantor to ensure the recovery of the loan, was also done away with.

''The target with the Corporation of the SC, ST, OBC, Minority communities and THE handicapped is to provide need-based loans up to Rs 1 lakh to 450 people under the Composite Loan Scheme for the current financial year 2007-08,'' she pointed out.

''Today, worksheds are once again being allotted through draw of lots, which will also be allotted for a period of five years on A monthly licenCe fee basis,'' she said.

The Corporation was incorporated on January 29, 1983 under the Companies Act, 1956 with the main objective of economic uplift and social development of the members of Scheduled Castes living below the poverty line in the National Capital.

Later OBC, Minorities and Physically Challenged groups were also assigned to this Corporation.
