CLP takes exception to CPI(M)'s land grabbing agitation

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) The Congress Legislature Party (CLP) today took great exception to the ongoing land grabbing agitation by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), stating that the stir would hamper developmental activities in the State.

Addressing a news conference here, State Housing Minister B Satyanarayana and Women Development and Child Welfare Minister N Rajyalakshmi said that there was no meaning in the CPI(M)'s agitation when the State Government had taken up housing programme in a big way.

Mr Satyanarayana said the State Government had taken up housing schemes under the Indiramma Housing Scheme and had decided to construct 18.5 lakh houses for the poor people in the State in the first phase. The Government had identified the beneficiaries and the list would be released in one or two days.

He said the CPI(M) leaders had recently created law and order problem in Nellore district through their agitation. The Government had decided to construct 6,600 houses for the poor people at Kothuru village in Nellore district and the details had been given to the CPI(M) leaders on the day of their agitation near the collectorate.

Accusing the CPI(M) leaders of resorting to double standards, the Minister said they were not talking about the CPI(M)-ruled States where their Governments had not taken up any housing programmes for the poor. Instead of creating law and order problem, the CPI(M) leaders could give good suggestions to the Government, which had decided to provide houses to all eligible poor people, irrespective of party affiliations.

Ms Rajyalakshmi said the CPI(M) had taken up the agitation for its political existence and to obstruct the developmental activities taken up by the Government. The Nellore District was developing industrially and providing employment to thousands of unemployed youth. The ''illegal'' agitations by the CPI(M) would hamper development in the district, she added.
