Body of irrigation dept clerk found inside trunk

Varanasi, June 20 (UNI) A senior clerk of the irrigation department was found murdered inside his house in Sigra area here today.

Forty-year-old Shiv Kumar's body was found hidden inside a trunk in his house in Chittupur-Chanduwa locality, police said.

Posted as senior clerk in the irrigation department office in Varanasi, Shiv Kumar along with wife and two children had gone a few days back to Allahabad to attend some function.

He returned to Varanasi on Monday leaving behind wife and two children at Allahabad. Last night when his wife returned, she found the house locked from inside and consequently stayed with the two children at a neighbour's house.

She returned to her house again this morning, but despite knocking the door repeatedly there was no reply from inside. With the help of the neighbours she managed to climb into the house.

On searching the house Shiv Kumar's body was found locked inside a trunk. The body bore injury marks on the neck and head which suggested that the Uttar Pradesh government employee had been killed, police added.

Body has been sent for post-mortem and further investigations were on.
