Arogya Sena conducts medical camps in Kottayam
Kottayam, June 20 (UNI) A medical team led by Dr Abhijit Vaidya of Arogya Sena Health Army from Pune conducted medical camps in Chikungunya-affected areas of the district today.
Talking to mediapersons, after conducting camps at Koruthodu, Chennapara and Kanamala (Erumely), Arogya Sena Founder-Chief Dr Vaidya, who had received training in disaster management from Israel, said 98 per cent of the people affected with viral fever had Chikungunya.
The teams examined around 1,500 patients and distributed medicines worth Rs 1.10 lakh.
Dr Vaidya, a consultant physician and cardiologist, appealed to the state government not to treat outbreak of the epidemic lightly and urged for action on a war-footing.
The government should provide immediate medical attendance to the affected by holding medical camps, conduct massive campaign and implement vector control measures, he added.
Arogya Sena, founded by Dr Vaidya in 1993, had so far trained 10,000 volunteers in three states-Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Jammu and Kashmir.
Apart from undertaking medical relief work during disasters, the Sena also trains people in disaster management and medical relief work.
