AP Cabinet approves photo identity card project

Hyderabad, June 20 (UNI) The Andhra Pradesh Cabinet tonight gave its approval for taking up jointly with the Election Commission an electors' photo identity card (EPIC) project in 281 constituencies at a cost of Rs 32.50 crore.

In a post-Cabinet press briefing here, Information Minister A Ramanarayana Reddy told reporters here that the project would be completed ahead of the 2009 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections.

The EC and the State Government would equally share the project cost, he said.

The Cabinet decided to create seven Assistant Secretary posts in the Secretariat in view of the increase in workload, he said.

The Cabinet sanctioned personal assistants to Members of Legislative Council on the lines of the facility provided to MLAs, Mr Reddy said, adding that it approved creation of two special Deputy Collector posts in Adilabad collectorate for land acquisition for the Sripadasagar project.

The Cabinet also gave its nod for creation of Deputy Registrar's post in the NTR University of Health and the required staff members for constitution of Junior Civil Judge Court at Mydukur in Kadapa district.

The Cabinet approved the proposal to provide 200 Sq.Yds of land to 130 former employees of the Asamjahi Mills in Warangal district by the Kakatiya Urban Development Authority, he said.
