Violence erupts over Dalit's death, 4 cops 15 people injured

Gulbarga, June 19 (UNI) Four policemen including an officer and 15 villagers were injured in stone pelting and lathicharge as violence broke out following the controversial death of a Dalit farmer, in this district today.

Official sources said the body of Paramanna, a 45-year-old farmer was found hanging in his house today. Villagers of Aldal alleged that the landlord had invited the deceased to his house for negotiations last night, but today he was found dead. They charged the landlord was responsible for the farmer's death.

Large number of villagers gathered and brought the body to the main road and stopped traffic. Later a group of four policemen including a Sub Inspector went to the village, where they were pelted with stones. Villagers also damaged two police vehicles.

Police rushed with additional reinforcements and resorted to lathicharge in which 15 people were injured.

The agitators demanded the arrest of the landlord. They refused to hand over the body to the police for autopsy.

Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Kumar Pandey and Superitendent of Police Manish Kabidkar went to the spot.

They assured the villagers of a thorough inquiry. The body was sent for post mortem.
